Anyone Use Long Line Leashes for Training or Exploration? Here's What Worked for Me
Permalink

I recently started using a long line leash during training and outdoor walks, and the difference has been incredible especially for recall practice and giving my dog more freedom without losing control.

After trying a few options, I landed on the Good Walker Long Line, which was designed by professional dog trainer Aly Rodges. It’s become a total game changer in how I walk, train, and give my dog space to roam safely.

Here’s what I’ve noticed:

  • Extended Freedom Without Sacrificing Control: Great for open areas where your dog wants to sniff and explore but still stay connected to you.

  • Training at a Distance: Perfect for working on recalls and obedience from a few feet (or yards!) away. It’s helped build trust and responsiveness.

  • Safer Exploration: My dog gets to “adventure” a little, but I don’t worry about them running off or getting into trouble.

  • Super Versatile: I’ve used it at parks, beaches, hiking trails really anywhere that isn’t fully fenced but offers room to move.

  • Solid Feel and Comfort: It doesn’t tangle easily, and it still gives me that Good Walker-style control I’m used to.

If you’ve ever felt like the standard 6-foot leash holds your dog back especially during training or outdoor fun this kind of leash might be what you’re looking for.

Curious have any of you tried long line leashes before?
How do you use them during walks or training? Any tips or challenges to watch out for?

Let’s compare notes. I’d love to hear what’s worked for you and your pup.
